Which Greek God/Goddess Are You Based On Your Zodiac Sign?

Astrology cannot be complete without an understanding of ancient mythology. While the two share a lot of similarities, the most important one is that they both stand the test of time.

Mythological elements can be found everywhere in astrology. In fact, each zodiac sign is associated with a god or goddess, given that each constellation is a representation of a figure from ancient mythology.

Babylonian astrology was taken up and developed further by the Greeks, who also gave the constellations many of the names that are still in use today.

They chose names for the constellations associated with various people from myths that best matched the characteristics of that constellation.

If we understand the Greek gods and goddesses associated with each sign, we can better understand their characteristics.

When people look to these gods for inspiration or a connection, they not only find ambitious figures, but they also come to the understanding that a person's flaws are an important part of their character.

Read on to find out which Greek god or goddess better suits your zodiac sign:

Aries – Ares, God of War

Aries - Ares, God of War

Ares is one of the twelve Olympian gods and the son of Zeus and Hera. Ares represents the bloody and savage nature of war, while Athena, the goddess of intelligence, represents military strategy.

Even though Ares personifies the physical aggression required to be victorious in battle, the Greeks had mixed feelings about him due to the fact that he was a dangerous, overwhelming force that was voracious in battle.

Ares has a limited role in literature; however, whenever he does appear in myth, he is typically humiliated. He is known as the lover of Aphrodite.

For instance, one of the most well-known stories about Ares and Aphrodite describes how the gods laughed at them after her husband Hephaestus locked them both naked in bed with a clever device he had made.

Ares, the Greek god of war, is traditionally connected with Aries, the first sign of the zodiac. The ruling planet of Aries is Mars, the Roman name for Ares.

Aries, like Ares, has a fiery temper, but those who take the time to get to know them well are rewarded with a faithful and valuable friend.

Taurus – Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest

Taurus - Demeter, Goddess of the Harvest

Demeter, the Greek goddess of harvest represents the earth's fertility. In spite of the fact that she is most commonly known as the goddess of the harvest, she was also the goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life until death.

Her grief for her daughter Persephone, who has to spend a third of the year in the underworld with her husband Hades, is the reason why there is winter. The joy she feels upon her return coincides with the Spring and summer months, which are the most fertile.

The colder months are spent lamenting the loss of her daughter. Her heartbreak over Persephone's union with Hades causes her to neglect her duties.

This is a representation of the intense devotion that Taurus feels, and how that same devotion can lead to depression if the Taurus feels abandoned.

However, both Demeter and Taurus have wonderful qualities; they are highly emotional, caring people who are great at making friends.

Gemini – Hermes, God of Thieves

Hermes was one of the twelve Olympian gods and was known as the god of commerce, thieves, travelers, sports, and border crossings. He was the offspring of Zeus and Maia, the second youngest of the Olympian gods.

Hermes had a reputation for being quick and cunning. He could freely move between the human world and the divine world. Because of this ability, he became a talisman for the gods as well as a mediator between the mortal world and the divine realm.

In addition, he is the patron and protector of those who travel, shepherds, thieves, orators and wit, literature and poets, athletes and sports, invention and commerce.

Hermes is portrayed in some myths as an imposter who outwits the gods for either the benefit of mankind or for his own personal amusement and gratification.

Similarly, Geminis tend to put on a false front due to their reluctance to make long-term commitments, and they can be too busy with what else is out there to really find anything stable.

Geminis are naturally social and enjoy having conversations with strangers, much like Hermes. Gemini's ruling planet is Mercury, the Roman name for the Greek god.

Cancer – Hera, Goddess of Marriage

Cancer - Hera, Goddess of Marriage

Hera is the wife and sister of Zeus as well as the queen of the gods. She is the goddess of marriage and childbirth.

In spite of the fact that she was the goddess of marriage, she was notorious for her jealousy and vengeance toward her husband Zeus' numerous other lovers and offspring.

She was also known to direct her wrath at mortals, such as Paris, who chose Aphrodite over Hera as the most beautiful goddess during the wedding of a sea nymph Thetis to a mortal named Peleus.

Hera and Cancer both have strong exterior that protects their sensitive interiors. There is a reason why the crab is the astrological sign for Cancer; this sign is emotionally driven and emotional and therefore protects itself by building walls around it.

When a person finally overcomes those obstacles, however, they will meet somebody who is compassionate, kind, and loyal to them.

Leo – Apollo, God of the Sun

Leo - Apollo, God of the Sun

Apollo is the god of many things, including music, poetry, art, oracles, archery, plague, medicine, the sun, light, and knowledge.

He is considered to be one of the most important and complex gods. On the Greek island of Delos, he was born on the same day as his older twin sister Artemis, the goddess of the hunt. He is the offspring of Zeus and the titan Leto.

Mythology states that Apollo was famous for playing melodies on his golden lyre and entertaining the gods and goddesses who lived on Mount Olympus.

Leo, like Apollo, is known as the entertainer of the zodiac. Those born under this sign are charismatic, loving, and warm because they are ruled by the Sun.

Be careful, however, because underneath their anger lies arrogance and stubbornness. They think highly of themselves.

Virgo – Artemis, Goddess of Hunting

Virgo - Artemis, Goddess of Hunting

Artemis is the goddess of the hunt and one of the most revered figures among the Greek gods and goddesses.

It is thought that her name and the goddess herself even date back to before the time of the Greeks. She was the daughter of Zeus, the king of the gods, and the titan Leto, and Apollo was her twin brother.

Artemis was worshiped not only as the goddess of the hunt, but also as the goddess of wild animals, the wilderness, childbirth, and virginity.

She was also a protector of young children and was known to cause and alleviate diseases in women. She was often portrayed in literature and art as a huntress armed with a bow and arrow.

Artemis was a maiden who attracted the attention and interest of a great number of gods and humans. On the other hand, her heart was only won over by her hunting companion Orion.

Since both Virgo and Artemis are known for their faithfulness and their hard work, it should not come as a surprise that Virgo is the sign associated with her.

Libra –  Aphrodite, Goddess of Love

Libra -  Aphrodite, Goddess of Love

Aphrodite is the goddess of love, beauty, procreation, and passion. She is identified with the planet Venus.

In spite of the fact that she was married to Hephaestus, Aphrodite had a number of lovers. Her lovers have included both gods and humans, such as the god Ares and the mortal Anchises.

Many gods believed that her beauty was so great that their rivalry over her would cause a war of the gods. This is the reason that Zeus chose to marry Aphrodite to Hephaestus; due to his ugliness and deformity, he was not considered to be a threat.

It is not a coincidence that people born under Libra share characteristics of Aphrodite such as being charming, lovable, romantic, graceful, compassionate, and fair.

This goddess had a reputation for being quite vain, which is one of Libra's worst traits. These people are lovable and charming, but just like Aphrodite, and they struggle to find the right life partner.

Scorpio – Hades, God of the Underworld

Scorpio - Hades, God of the Underworld

The king of the underworld and the god of the dead, Hades was Cronus and Rhea's firstborn son. Through kidnapping, he was able to obtain both his wife and Queen Persephone.

Hades ruled the dead, assisted by others over whom he had full authority. He was primarily concerned with preventing any of his captives from escaping, so he paid little attention to what was going on in the world above.

His wrath was equally terrible for anyone who attempted to cheat death. As a result, he was often misunderstood, much like Scorpio, and he was the only god who never cheated on his bride and showed loyalty, which is another Scorpio trait.

Hades had all of the characteristics of a Scorpio: he was intense, trustworthy, passionate, and caring. However, he was also extremely protective and possessive of his loved ones, and he showed no mercy to those who tried to harm them.

Sagittarius – Zeus, King of the Gods

Sagittarius - Zeus, King of the Gods

Zeus was the first of the gods and a big figure of authority in mythology. He is a sky god who controls lightning (which he uses as a weapon) and thunder, and he is often referred to as the “father of gods and men.”

Zeus is the ruler of the world and imposes his will on everyone, gods and mortals alike, from his position as king of Olympus, home of the Greek gods.

He was also quick to become angry, which could be very destructive. He previously hurled lightning and caused violent storms that devastated the earth.

Zeus would easily fall in love, and he had a lot of relationships with many women. However, he severely punished anyone who attempted to fall in love with his wife, Hera.

He is often referred to as a powerful and imposing man with a regal body and long hair that is curly. He kept his beard relatively short and never left the house without his trusty lightning bolt.

Does this ring a bell? Jupiter, the planet of prosperity and honesty, rules Sagittarius. The arrow of Zeus corresponds to the archer of Sagittarius.

There is a reason behind Zeus' being a patriarch. He gets things done; much like a modern-day Sagittarius, his great ideas can oftentimes lead to big actions.

Capricorn – Hephaestus, God of Blacksmiths

Capricorn - Hephaestus, God of Blacksmiths

Hephaestus was the Greek god of fire, metalworking, stone masonry, blacksmithing, and sculpture. He was the son of Zeus and Hera, and Zeus married him to Aphrodite to avoid a conflict among the gods over who would get her hand in marriage.

He was a blacksmith god who was responsible for creating all of Olympus's weapons. He made many of the most important weapons and armor of the gods.

These are traits that resonate with Capricorns. Capricorns, who are known to be some of the hardest workers in the zodiac, are disciplined and resourceful even when they are surrounded by chaos.

What modern Capricorns can draw from their connection with Hephaestus is that their work should not be their whole life, because there are things beyond that.

Aquarius –  Athena, Goddess of Wisdom

Aquarius -  Athena, Goddess of Wisdom

Athena is a goddess of many things. She is a goddess of intelligence, bravery, inspiration, civilization, law and justice, strategic warfare, mathematics, strength, strategy, arts, crafts, and skills.

She is commonly portrayed as the companion of heroes and is regarded as the patron goddess of heroic endeavor. Athena is particularly well-known for her expertise in military strategy.

Aquarians who are overly ambitious can learn a lesson from this goddess, who, in one of her most well-known stories, transforms Arachne into a spider because she talks about being a better weaver than the goddess.

Aquarius should take this opportunity to learn that their amibiton should not turn into hostility.

Pisces – Poseidon, God of the Sea

Pisces - Poseidon, God of the Sea

Poseidon was the god of the sea, earthquakes, storms, and horses. He is known for his short temper, capricious behavior, and greed. When he felt wronged, he became vengeful.

Poseidon was the brother of Hades and Zeus. Poseidon was able to take control of the kingdom of the sea after the three brothers deposed their father.

is primary weapon and symbol was a trident, which may have originally been a spear used for fishing. According to the Greek poet Hesiod, Poseidon's trident, like Zeus' lightning and Hades' helmet, was fashioned by the three Cyclopes.

Pisces tend to let their feelings influence how they behave, despite the fact that on average they are more even-tempered than Poseidon. This is not always a bad thing because it lets you know that Pisces isn't afraid to say what they really think.
